Zac Veitch

Hello, I am Zac Veitch, Mr Bassman.
What does bass physically mean to me? It’s a tool and a friend. It helps me along the path to groove and rhythm. I play with my ear and feeling the groove, translating it to your fingers and having fun is the best way to do that. I love the way the feeling of a good bass changes over time, how the strings warm up and the tone shifts. How the frets get looser, it allows a real connection to an instrument.

How about mentally? Bass is the legs of the body. It lets you walk, it’s strong, but can do some fantastic, beautiful things when treated right. There’s a reason it’s called a walking bass line. The possibilities are endless, tap dancing, backflips and the splits are all on the table (or fretboard (or any wooden slab really.))

Who inspires me every day to keep doing what I'm doing? I think the most obvious answer is the big guy - Joe Dart. But there are endless fantastic bassists. Guy Bernfield, Roman Klobe-Barangă - part of the Moses Yoofee trio, but also Pianists like Jesus Molina and masters of the DAW like Sammy Virji. I try to keep my interests varied so my playing can go along with it.

Who am I? I am currently studying three STEM subjects and Music Tech at Maidstone Grammar School. There have been endless opportunities there. I am the head of Sound and Light, and a Corporal within the RAF section of the CCF, heading the Air Recce Team. It’s a fantastic school and wouldn't wish to be anywhere else.
